Strategic Overview

Civic Works empowers underserved communities through comprehensive civic education and workforce development initiatives. Our mission is to prepare underserved individuals for successful union construction and trades careers while fostering civic engagement, leadership development, and community empowerment. Our vision is to create a pathway to economic opportunity and social equity for individuals from underserved communities. By equipping participants with the necessary skills, support, and opportunities, we aim to build a diverse and inclusive workforce in the construction and trades industry while cultivating a new generation of civic leaders committed to advocating for positive change within their communities.

Objectives and Focus

The core objective of the NextGen: Supplier Diversity Program is to assist emerging entrepreneurs of color in developing the necessary skills and knowledge to operate successful businesses. Our focus encompasses five key methods critical to a business's success:

Empowerment Through Education

We offer civic education, workforce training, and support services like GED prep, ID help, and transport to empower careers in union trades and community leadership

Preparation for Union Careers

We prepare participants for union trades with training, certifications, and job placement, partner with local unions and industry, and promote equitable hiring.

Civic Engagement and Empowerment

We foster civic engagement, support grassroots projects on social justice, and build leadership skills to empower participants as advocates for positive change.

Civic Education Curriculum

Our strategy involves designing a civic and workforce development curriculum with expert input, hybrid learning, and support from unions and Vineyard Offshore. Targeted outreach will recruit motivated minority millennials, and training will include practical skills with wrap-around support (e.g., GED prep, ID help, childcare). Rigorous evaluation will guide ongoing improvements and ensure lasting impact.
